Una casa da collezione

A 1950s villa located in a hilly zone of Bologna, with large windows overlooking a garden, required complete renovation.

Avant-garde for its time, the house was designed with stunning continuity between indoors and outdoors.

Light is its genius loci as it opens onto an English garden.

The rooms are arranged in succession around a large marble staircase. We decided to maintain the original character of the house, including its general layout.

Thus, the complex but incisive project was designed to preserve this important historical heritage.

Reinterpreting the floor plans in order to adapt them to the new requirements, we rediscovered materials and elements of the period. Bespoke terrazzo flooring in white marble and narrow wall panelling in dark wood were inserted alongside the new materials by means of clever architectural stratagems.

After restoring the sanitaryware designed by Gio Ponti, we were able to accommodate the pieces in some of the new bathrooms. The new wood flooring was installed based on the original patterns but interpreted on a different scale.

The large Japanese-style sliding doors in ox-blood red that divided the entrances from the living area were restored and put back into operation.

Meticulous inventories were made of the artworks collected by the ancestors of the new owners. Several original pieces were maintained, including paintings by Picasso and Braque.

The attention to detail becomes sublime in the refined selection of furnishings, in which a cocktail of pieces from the 1960s and the 1970s are combined with new functional elements expressly designed by the studio.
